Intelligent multimedia content analysis and synthesis supported by social media

The MediaPot project is funded by the Greek Ministry of Economy and Development under the Operational Programme “Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship”. The MediaPot project intends to bridge media and news reporting from media professionals and social networking users to produce useful and reliable information that professionals can then use to trigger their journalistic research and the compilation of new news stories or enrich their existing stories. The project will analyse content in text, image, and video formats, as well as information extracted from social networks, in which this content is produced, to retrieve and assess useful information about the most important news. In particular, the project aims to: a) extract entities and their relationships from post in social networks; b) retrieve information from social networks for the evaluation of textual posts; c) extract information from multimedia content and link it to text, as well as to verify the relationship to the extracted entities; d) to build a synthesis of multimedia content and its relations to entities for the development of news stories, and e) the implementation of a platform for the visualization of news stories, which will be evaluated by journalists and news production specialists and will constitute the baseline for the commercial and economic exploitation of the project scientific results.

MediaPot platform aims to bring together media professionals with citizens’ journalist groups under the auspices of a single and continuous process of producing quality and reliable news and relevant stories. The platform will develop a modern and dynamic news story creation environment that will exploit innovative solutions in the field of multimedia content analysis and news verification. Through a combination of artificial intelligence and data mining services, the proposed ICT platform will be able to analyse multimedia content (text, image and video) from the social media, verify the trustworthiness of the reporting source and the reliability of the reported information, and produce related news stories in a semi-automated way.

Athens Technology Center (ATC) is the coordinator of the project and responsible for the integration of the MediaPot platform.
