DS2 is a Horizon Europe funded project that aims to secure that complex lifecycles of inter-sector data sharing, aggregation and provenance take place in a human centric and trusted way, with common structures, exportability and insight, whilst protecting the sovereign rights of data owners and complying with European data regulations.
DS2 provides a modular software infrastructure to connect data sources (Data Spaces/data silos/data lakes) together for the purpose of cross-sector data sharing. Once connected, data consumers and data providers will be able to structure and execute efficient complex data lifecycles that respect the technical and governance related requirements of the participating data sources. DS2 is deployed at each data source/space and network connected to any other IDT-enabled data source.
The main objectives of DS2 include:
- Establishment of a federated intersector DataSpace Toolkit ecosystem.
- Intersector Dataspace problem space and framework.
- Specification of data governance methodologies.
- Create intersector DataSpace Toolkit data access modules.
- Development of intersector DataSpace Toolkit human modules.
- Set up and implementation of intersector pilots.
DS2 brings together 15 partners from 8 countries (Finland, Spain, Greece, Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Estonia and Israel).

The role of ATC as a technology partner includes designing, developing, implementing and deploying a data rights management module via a hybrid (on-chain/ off-chain) blockchain-based scheme for DRM, which provides trusted and high-level credible content protection. Furthermore, ATC as a lead beneficiary is responsible for the design, development, implementation and deployment of two state-of-the-art, AI-driven intelligent conversational agents for data discovery, assessment, DS2 module recommendation and configuration of complex Data Life Cycles (DLC) that support data consumers and data providers to initiate a complex DLC for data sharing between data spaces, recommend and configure a complex DLC that protects the sovereign rights, including compliance with the EC regulations, over the complex life cycles of data sharing, aggregation and provenance as well as perform auto-assisted configuration based on the interaction and recommendations.
In addition, ATC participates in the definition of the intersector DataSpace architecture and the functional/technical specifications of DS2, the identification of the DS2 problem space as well as contibution in survey and focus group-based research activities on the motivations, barriers and strategies for data sharing access of various stakeholders and end-users. ATC also brings its knowledge and expertise in various integration tasks on technical deliverables.
The project started in January 2024 and will last for 36 months.
