EVidenced based management of hearing impairments: Public health pΟlicy making based on fusing big data analytics and simulaTION

EVOTION project (EVidenced based management of hearing impairments: Public health pΟlicy making based on fusing big data analytics and simulaTION), a project co-funded by the EU under H2020-SC1-2016 aimed to develop an integrated platform supporting: (a) the analysis of big datasets of data such as Hearing Aids usage, noise (TTS) episodes, audiological, physiological, cognitive, clinical and medication, personal, behavioral, life style, occupational and environmental data, from five different organizations to enable the identification of causal and other effects amongst them, (b) policy decision making focusing on the selection of effective interventions related to the holistic management of Hearing Loss (HL), based on the outcomes of (a) and the formulation of related public health policies, and (c) the specification and monitoring of such policies in a sustainable manner. To achieve this aim, EVOTION also brought together public health policy organizations, experts and authorities supporting the formation of the targeted policies and the validation of the EVOTION support for it.

The EVOTION Consortium was coordinated by OTICON A/S (Denmark) and consisted of University College London (United Kingdom), as the Scientific leader, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (Greece), City University (United Kingdom), as the Technical leader, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine (Poland), Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Trust (United Kingdom), Athens Medical Center SA (Greece), Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County (Croatia), Pazardzhik Regional Administration (Bulgaria), Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy) and EMPELOR (Switzerland).

ATC in the EVOTION project aimed at the Requirements and Design, especially targeting the identification and engagement of different stakeholders from whom requirements should be elicited for the EVOTION platform. Also, under the Requirements and Design tasks ATC contributed to the definition of the overall architecture of the EVOTION platform and to the detailed specification of the design of its components. Moreover, ATC led the EVOTION solution integration of the different components into a well-documented single platform at TRL-7. Finally, ATC contributed to the development of the EVOTION components with a mobile application and a social media campaigning feedback collection component.

The project started in November 2016 and had a duration of 39 months.
