The European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) works to strengthen and enable collaboration among a multidisciplinary community of stakeholders tackling online disinformation. It brings together fact-checkers, media literacy experts, and academic researchers to understand and analyse disinformation, in collaboration with media organisations, online platforms and media literacy practitioners.
The third phase of EDMO focuses on moving from a primarily network-building and coordination role towards a more operational, intelligence-led observatory: strengthening EU-wide situational awareness through monitoring, analysis, early warning, and joint investigations of disinformation campaigns, especially in elections and crisis contexts.
At the same time, it places stronger emphasis on societal resilience, media literacy, public outreach, and the EDMO web portal as a central access point for outputs from EDMO and its Hubs, supported by independent governance and closer coordination across the European counter-disinformation ecosystem.
Project partners: European University Institute (EUI) (coordinator), Pagella Politica, ATC, Media and Learning Association (MLA), Globsec.
ATC’s role: ATC is the technical partner of EDMO, supporting EDMO’s technical infrastructure. ATC’s role in EDMO III is to remain responsible for the technological backbone of EDMO, including the maintenance, security, improvement and progressive optimisation of the EDMO public web portal and related repositories. In this phase, ATC will focus particularly on improving searchability, accessibility, user experience, social sharing, analytics-based roadmap implementation, and the presentation of EDMO and Hub outputs through practical, searchable and user-friendly digital formats.
