Viopolis took a radical approach to the long term preservation of digital user content. The system allowed Viopolis enriched User Content to be distributed and redistributed through a network of commercial and non-profit files (Preservation Services) while ensuring a lasting relationship between the holder and the spiritual content owner.
The objective of the project was to explore the possible development of a system that would guarantee a long-term archiving and preservation of citizen’s content (for instance media items). The long-term content preservation and archiving was a key research based on extensions to industrial research with the ultimate goal to be beneficiary for both the scientific and industrial partners in several areas of information systems, technologies, applications and services on the Internet. Finally, Viopolis aimed to contribute to the emergence and development of the cultural heritage.
