Revealing Hidden Concepts in Social Media

9 December 2013

ATC participates as the technical and scientific coordinator in the REVEAL project, which is co-funded by the European Commission under the FP7 ICT programme. REVEAL aims to discover ‘higher level’ information hidden within social media multimedia content, such as the reputation, influence or trustworthiness of an information source. In Social Media we do not only have bare content; we also have interconnected information sources. We have to deal with interactions between them, and we have many indicators about the context within which content is used, and the interactions are taking place. A core challenge is to decipher interactions of individuals in permanently changing constellations, and to do so in real time. Further to discovering the interactions between information sources, we will determine how trustworthy that information is. We will predict contributor impact and how much or to what extent it affects reputation or influence. This will allow us to implicitly estimate the quality and accuracy of content, and to predict future trends with greater accuracy.

ATC will lead the integration and pilot applications, and will contribute strongly to the transition from user requirements to the architectural implementation of the REVEAL framework and applications. ATC will also offer guidance to the evaluation and future exploitation planning.

The project started on 1 November 2013 and is expected to finish after 3 years.
